TECHNOLOGY & INVENTION / 2026–2027

Build it back.
Code it forward.
Create her future.

Technology is a major part of her learning journey. Practical restoration and creative computing help girls in rural Kenya move from using technology to understanding it—and inventing with it.

Rebuild.
Refurbish. Restore.

01 / PRACTICAL WORK. POWERFUL THINKING.

She can understand
what is inside.
And imagine what is next.

Two complementary options, connected by invention.

Labor Education develops practical responsibility through rebuilding, refurbishing, and restoring approved computers, appliances, and other learning equipment. Its inspiration includes China’s emphasis on learning through practical labor, reflection, and everyday capability.

Coding & Robotics combines structured online curriculum with hands-on coding, creative puzzles, LEGO building challenges, and friendly contests. Girls work toward proficiency by creating, debugging, testing, and explaining their own solutions.

Local educators guide readiness and route selection. Both options contribute to a required, age-appropriate year-end technology invention.

02 / THE TWO-FOLD TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM

Hands that restore.
Minds that create.

Choose an option and a learning focus to explore the work, the challenge, and the evidence a girl can build into her portfolio.

EXPLORE A LEARNING FOCUS

ONLINE CURRICULUM

Educator-selected, readiness-matched coding lessons and practical checkpoints from current course catalogs.

HANDS-ON CHALLENGE

Unplugged algorithms, approved restoration labs, robotics builds, and design tasks with repeatable tests.

FEEDBACK & PROFICIENCY

Explain a process, identify a fault, improve an idea, and demonstrate what she can do with increasing independence.

How practical restoration is taught +

Qualified technicians assess and isolate equipment before it enters a learning activity. Girls work with approved unpowered training devices, low-voltage learning kits, and age-appropriate tools. Trained adults handle live mains testing, power supplies, hazardous components, damaged battery packs, and unsafe electronic waste. Devices return to service only after professional checks; adult-managed data handling protects previous owners’ information.

03 / A SMALL TASTE OF CREATIVE CODING

Think it through.
Then test the sequence.

Try a simple unplugged-style robot challenge. Build commands from Start to Goal, avoid the blocked squares, and test your route. Can you reach the goal in eight moves?

BUILD HER FIRST ALGORITHM

Add a command to begin.

A sequence tells the robot what to do, one step at a time.

A preview of the thinking—not an assessment of coding proficiency. In the program, girls extend sequences into loops, conditions, functions, and physical robotics.

04 / CODING, ROBOTICS & LEGO BUILDING

Challenging. Playful.
Worth trying again.

Building challenges and contests create a reason to apply code, measure performance, and work with an inventive team.

CREATE WITH CODE

A game with her own rules.

Make an interactive story or game. Use sequences, loops, and conditions; gather feedback; fix a bug; and explain the improvement.

Evidence: original code + debugging journal
BUILD WITH LEGO

A machine with a purpose.

Explore structures, mechanisms, and programmable movement using appropriate LEGO building and robotics resources.

Evidence: model + repeatable test results
TAKE THE CHALLENGE

A mission the team can defend.

Join program-level building contests with clear goals for accuracy, reliability, teamwork, and improvement. Explore external competitions when ready.

Evidence: mission log + design reflection

Official competition entry is a future option, subject to local availability, rules, equipment, and registration. FIRST and LEGO Education programs are evolving for 2026–2027; educators will verify current pathways before purchasing kits or entering teams.

05 / REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM

Her year.
Her invention.
Her proof of learning.

Every student must complete a year-end technology invention project to finish the program successfully.

She identifies a meaningful problem, designs an age-appropriate solution, builds or codes a prototype, tests it, and explains what she learned. A successful project shows her reasoning and progress, including honest limitations.

Examples are illustrative. Qualified educators approve the project scope and assess progress using readiness-appropriate criteria.

06 / WHY THIS PATHWAY MATTERS

The opportunity is real.
Access should be, too.

Global context for investing in girls’ technology learning. These figures describe wider education and labor markets, not results achieved by Talitha Cumi.

07 / SKILLS THAT CAN OPEN DOORS

Local capability.
International possibilities.

Technology skills can support future roles across software, education, finance, manufacturing, and technical services. Explore adult career examples and the learning behind them.

Pay figures are US adult occupational medians for May 2025, in USD per year. They are not starting salaries, Kenyan pay rates, women-only figures, or promised earnings. International work depends on qualifications, demonstrated skills, employer needs, location, and eligibility.

BUILD A PORTFOLIO

Show original code, restoration documentation, tested prototypes, and clear explanations.

KEEP LEARNING

Progress into further study, technical training, certifications, or university pathways that fit her goals.

COMMUNICATE ACROSS BORDERS

Practice teamwork, documentation, digital collaboration, and presenting ideas to different audiences.

08 / RECOGNIZE EXCELLENCE. SUPPORT THE NEXT STEP.

Reward her ingenuity.
Stay with her ambition.

Outstanding learners should have a route to continued development, recognition, and informed choices after the year ends.

INTERNATIONAL-STUDY VISION

A scholarship opportunity.

Girls who excel will have the opportunity to be considered for scholarship support toward further education internationally.

INVENTION RECOGNITION

A financial reward for ingenuity.

Outstanding year-end technology inventions can earn financial recognition, celebrating a tested idea and the learner’s original contribution.

AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION

Career counseling & coaching.

High-performing completers will be offered age-appropriate guidance on strengths, portfolios, study choices, and longer-term technology career pathways.

Scholarship and financial award funding, amounts, eligibility, selection criteria, and timelines are being developed. International study opportunities depend on admissions and partner arrangements. The program model and follow-on services will be finalized before launch.

09 / REFERENCES & LEARNING RESOURCES

Built with context.
Grounded in evidence.

Program plans are original Talitha Cumi proposals. External resources inform delivery choices and context; they are not confirmed partners or endorsements.

She can repair a possibility.
She can code a new one.
